Han River Running, Day Two: 5.99km (July 31, 2026)

Yesterday my son asked me to start running with him along the Han River, and today is day two. I wasn’t feeling quite as fresh as yesterday, but I set the alarm and went out again anyway.

Today’s Log, 5.99km

We set out at 6:58am today and covered 5.99km. Our average pace slowed slightly to 10’09 per km, the run took 1:00:49, we burned 409 calories, and our average heart rate was 118. Both the distance and pace dropped a bit from yesterday.

What Changed From Yesterday

Both distance and pace fell off from yesterday, but I figured scaling back to match how our bodies felt was better than forcing the same numbers. It’s only been two days, but something has already shifted. Waking each other up in the morning feels natural now, and we’ve started eating breakfast together afterward, talking about how the pace felt that day.

Something He Said After Two Days

While we were running and talking about this and that, my son said, out of nowhere, “I’ve never had my willpower burn this bright before.” Hearing that, it hit me how much he’s grown up. These days he comes to me every morning wanting to measure our heights side by side. I can tell he’s checking how much of the gap is left, and even that small ritual says how badly he wants to shoot up.

Wrapping Up

5.99km.

Not quite as strong as yesterday, but showing up two days in a row, and that one sentence from my son, mean more to me right now than the numbers do. Pace and distance will go up and down from here, but I’ll keep logging our runs day by day as we go.
